A bit of our history

The neighborhood is rich in traditions - family, sporting, cultural

It would be almost impossible to talk about the Auge district without including its many families, its culture, its dialect. And of course, its hockey.

The National League A team Fribourg-Gottéron, of course, has its roots in the Auge district. Between a small stream of the same name, the Gottéron, and the former Augustins ice rink, famous not only for its fiery games but also for the characters etched in history, like the beloved Father Noël, who brought a smile to everyone's face as he forgot his own happy Sunday manners when game day arrived.

You will soon find more information on this page about this unforgettable era, which was the lifeblood of an entire neighborhood where, in those "good old days," you could find numerous bakeries, butcher shops, grocery stores, and small dairies. People weren't rich, certainly quite a bit less so than today, but they were close-knit and supportive of one another. Instead of ordering one out of every three meals online, people went to neighborhood cafes, to the small shops, to their neighbours—easygoing characters whose children shared the same harmless little scuffles after school. People would rearrange a nose after school, over a cute classmate, then they'd shake hands and go home. Those crooked noses all sniffed together, sharing the same sadness, when their hockey team left the neighborhood for fame and fortune uptown. Experts will tell these stories here soon... Stay tuned!
